How to Reply to a Recruiter on LinkedIn (With Examples)
Five copy-paste recruiter response templates for LinkedIn: interested, not interested, not now, asking for details, and re-engaging after silence.

Most people overthink recruiter replies for two reasons: regret aversion ("I might burn a bridge") and status-quo bias ("better to say nothing than risk a bad reply").
Use these templates instead. Keep them short, respectful, and specific.
1) You're interested
Template:
"Hi [Name], thanks for reaching out. The role looks interesting, especially the [specific detail]. I'm open to a quick call next week to learn more. Would [two time options] work?"
2) You're not interested
Template:
"Hi [Name], really appreciate the message. I'm not exploring new opportunities right now, but thanks for considering me. Happy to stay connected for future roles."
3) Interested, but not now
Template:
"Hi [Name], thanks for reaching out. Timing is not ideal for me this quarter, but the opportunity does look relevant. If you're still hiring in [month], I'd be glad to reconnect."
4) Need more info first
Template:
"Hi [Name], thanks for the note. Before scheduling, could you share compensation range, team structure, and expected scope for the first 6 months? If those align, happy to continue."
5) Re-engage after going silent
Template:
"Hi [Name], circling back and apologies for the delay here. If the role is still open, I'd be interested in revisiting. If not, I'd still love to stay in touch for similar opportunities."
How to avoid sounding desperate or cold
- Thank them once
- Signal clear intent (yes/no/not now)
- Add one concrete next step when relevant
That structure keeps replies safe, professional, and easy to process.
